Please read these official rules before entering the “Win a Career Contest” sponsored by Madison Area Technical College (MATC).

By entering the Contest, you agree to be bound by these rules and represent that you satisfy all eligibility requirements for the Contest.

NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Offer void where prohibited or restricted by law.

RULES

To Enter

  1. To enter, print and complete the entry form from the contest website at www.winacareer.com or MATC’s website at: http:// matcmadison.edu. To be eligible, entries must be completed and received by the DEADLINE of 5:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2008. Incomplete entries may be disqualified. All entries shall become the property of MATC. MATC is not responsible for lost, misdirected or delayed entries. Entries should be mailed or delivered to Win a Career Contest, Room AB161, MATC, 3550 Anderson Street, Madison, WI 53704.
  1. Entries are limited to one per person.
  1. Your entry (including without limitation, your video) must be your original work, may not have been published previously or infringe any third-party rights, and must be suitable for publication (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent). By entering the Contest, you represent and warrant that you own all rights in your entry (including without limitation, your video) and that your entry (including without limitation, your video) does not infringe or otherwise violate any rights of any third party. All entries become the property of MATC and will not be returned, and by entering the Contest, you assign all rights (including without limitation, the right to edit and otherwise modify) in your entry (including without limitation, your video) to MATC and forfeit all rights to your entry.

Who Can Enter

  1. The contest is open to juniors and seniors enrolled in high schools located within the MATC district. Adult (those 18 years or older) residents, who have completed high school or a high school equivalency degree, living within the district are also eligible if they have not taken a degree credit class from MATC in the last two years.   1. To be awarded a Prize (defined below), the Contest winners must meet MATC’s standard admission requirements and be admitted by MATC. To receive a Prize, the Contest winners must also maintain good academic standing and comply with the MATC student code of conduct.
  1. Employees of MATC and their immediate families are not eligible to enter or win.
  1. MATC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry that does not comply with these rules or to disqualify any person (and all of his or her entries) for any reason. Without limiting the generality of the previous sentence, if information is obtained about an entrant that is defamatory or indicates involvement in any activity that might result in adverse publicity or notoriety for MATC, or otherwise tends to bring MATC into public disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule, MATC reserves the right to disqualify such entrant (and all of his or her entries).

Selection Process

  1. A panel of judges will select up to 40 finalists from the eligible written entries. Each of the 40 finalists will be notified by email or phone the week of December 8, 2008. Finalists must then submit a video no longer than 3 minutes telling their story by January 7, 2009. Videos that do not comply with these rules will not be accepted.
  1. Each finalist must be featured in his or her video. Each person (including the finalist) whose image appears in a finalist’s video must sign a publicity release, a form that is available from MATC’s website at http://matcmadison.edu.
  1. Finalist videos must be submitted in one of the following formats: VHS, Flash Video, .mp4, .mov or .wmv. Finalist videos must be original, must not have been previously published or infringe any third-party rights or copyright laws, and must be suitable for publication (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent), in MATC’s sole discretion. Borrowed or professionally produced materials will not be accepted. Finalist videos that put participants or others at risk in any way will not be accepted.
  1. Finalist videos will be judged on the following three criteria: (1) Story: How compelling is your story? (2) Presentation: It’s your time to shine! Convince us in your own words why you should win a career. (3) Career goals: What do you aspire to become and how can MATC help you get there?
  1. A panel of judges will choose one Contest winner and up to four runners-up, and their decision is final.
  1. Finalists must be present at the Win A Career awards celebration to be eligible to win. The awards celebration is February 12, 2009 at MATC, 3550 Anderson Street, Madison, WI 53704. If a Contest winner or runners-up is unreachable, ineligible or unable to claim his or her prize at the awards celebration, the Contest winner forfeits his or her Prize, and MATC may award the prize to another finalist in its sole discretion.
  1. The winners may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and/or release of liability and publicity before being awarded the Prize. If a winner does not execute such an affidavit or release upon request, the Prize shall be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate winner.

Prizes

  1. One Contest winner will be awarded a scholarship, having a verifiable retail value of up to $6,000, from the MATC Foundation. The scholarship award may be applied to any open MATC program between 2009 and 2012.
  1. Up to four Contest runners-up will be awarded a scholarship, having a verifiable retail value of up to $1,000, from the MATC Foundation. The scholarship award may be applied to any open MATC program between 2009 and 2012.
  1. The Prizes may be redeemed only by the Contest winners and one not transferable or redeemable for cash.
  1. All federal, state and local taxes associated with the receipt or use of the Prizes are the sole responsibility of the Contest winners.
  1. The Contest winners may be required to pay the usual MATC admission application fee in connection with applying for admission to MATC, which application may also require the Contest winner to pay applicable convenience fees.
  1. Odds of being selected as a finalist depend on the number of eligible entries received. For the 40 finalists, the odds of winning a Prize are 1 in 8.

General Release

  1. Although 92% of MATC graduates find jobs within six months of graduation, MATC makes no representations or warranties related to a Contest winner’s career success.
  1. By entering the Contest and/or accepting the Prize, each entrant and winner releases MATC and its respective affiliates and related companies and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, and other representatives from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Contest, with the acceptance, possession or use of the Prize (including without limitation, claims, costs, injuries or losses related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light).

Consent

Unless prohibited by law, by entering the Contest and/or accepting the Prize, each entrant consents to the use, without additional compensation, of his or her name and/or likeness and/or voice/ photograph and municipality of residence for promotion and/or advertising purposes in any manner and in any medium (including without limitation, radio broadcasts, newspapers and other publications and in television or film releases, slides, videotape, distribution over the internet and picture data storage) which MATC may deem appropriate.

Miscellaneous

MATC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change these rules or cancel the Contest at any time without prior notice.
