On Nov. 1, 2007, MATC held its first-ever Win A Career Contest at the annual College Spotlight event, and one contestant won a two-year scholarship (worth $6,000) from MATC to pursue his dream career.
The contest began in September, when applicants were asked to fill out an application, answer questions about their future career goals, and talk about how they would show their career dreams in an amateur video. From the applications received, 30 were chosen to submit videos, showing how a career from MATC would change their lives. From those videos, five finalists were chosen.
The contest was held in the Mitby Theater, and the finalists were on stage while each of their videos played for the audience and a group of four celebrity judges.
The judges chose Alex Fellenz, a senior at Middleton High school, as the winner of this year's contest based on the story he told in his video, which explained his goal of becoming a forensic anthropologist.
As part of the contest, the audience also participated in the People's Choice Award, voting for their favorite video. John Sannito from Fitchburg received this year's People's Choice, winning $500 toward textbooks from the MATC bookstore.
All contest runners-up received $1,000 scholarships toward tuition from MATC. Check out their videos below!
